The Government College Ughelli (GCU) Class of 92 is beaming with pride as one of our own, Hon. Dr. Olotu Otemu Akpodiete JP, achieves another significant milestone in his illustrious career. Dr. Akpodiete, the Executive Director of the Olotu & Ekuogbe Rowland Akpodiete Foundation, recently earned his PhD in Management from Ballsbridge University, British Virgin Islands—a testament to his relentless pursuit of excellence.

Dr. Akpodiete’s journey is one of grit, dedication, and selfless service. With degrees from prestigious institutions such as Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, and the Paris Graduate School of Management, France, alongside honorary doctorate degrees from esteemed universities including European-American University (Commonwealth of Dominica) and the University of Nicosia, Cyprus, his academic and professional accomplishments speak volumes.

As a Management Consultant, Philanthropist, Entrepreneur, Security Expert, and Community Developer, Dr. Akpodiete has seamlessly combined intellectual prowess with a passion for uplifting others. His leadership extends to memberships and fellowships in renowned global organizations, such as the Africa Institute of Public Administration (Ghana) and the International Professional Managers Association (UK), among others.

Beyond his academic accolades, Dr. Akpodiete has made monumental contributions to humanity through his foundation and leadership roles. Notable achievements include:

Transformative Milestone: Government College Ughelli Unveils State-of-the-Art CCTV System

In a historic event coinciding with Government College Ughelli's 79th Founder's Day Reunion on January 17, 2023, the Class of '92 proudly commissioned a cutting-edge CCTV project within the school premises.

Chief Albert Akpomudje SAN, the esteemed President General Worldwide (PGWW) of GCUOBA, graced the occasion with his entourage. The commissioning ceremony commenced at 10:12 AM in the newly established CCTV control room.

Engr Victor Ubieghan, a dedicated member of the project committee, eloquently presented the features of the night vision, 360-degree digital CCTV system. He also highlighted the class's additional initiatives, including a sanitation program and an inter-school debate competition, all in celebration of their Silver Jubilee—25 years post-graduation.

Commending the Class of '92, Chief Albert Akpomudje SAN praised their commitment to enhancing the school environment. In recognition of their outstanding contributions, he challenged the class to calculate the total cost of their various projects. If the sum reached ten million naira (N10,000,000), the class would earn a well-deserved spot on GCUOBA's honor list.

The commissioning proceedings included a live demonstration, allowing attendees to view footage from the strategically positioned cameras in different locations across the school. The successful experiment showcased the CCTV system's effectiveness in enhancing security.

The ceremony concluded on a high note with a group photograph capturing the significant moment shared by PGWW, Chief Albert Akpomudje SAN, and the proud members of the Class of '92. Subsequently, a collective photograph featuring the Class of '92 and other esteemed old boys marked the culmination of this transformative event, symbolizing a commitment to the school's safety and progress.

Legacy of Gratitude: Embracing Our Teachers' Impact in the GCU Class of "92 Silver Jubilee Celebration


The GCU Class of '92 proudly leads the way, and as part of our Silver Jubilee celebration, we are delighted to announce a special recognition for our esteemed teachers. The awards are divided into two categories: Posthumous and Living Teachers.

In the Posthumous category, we honor the late Mr. Oteri and late Mr. Akpeghagha, while in the Living Teachers category, we extend our appreciation to Mrs. Theresa Uvieghara and Mr. Stanley O Akpodemrae. Each recipient was chosen through a democratic vote, showcasing the deep gratitude we hold for their impactful roles in shaping our education.

Accompanying these honors are cash prizes, a small token to express our profound remembrance and appreciation for their dedicated service. This initiative aims to highlight the pivotal role teachers play in laying the foundations of society, and we aspire to expand these awards to recognize more educators.

The award committee, led by Barr. Ayo Collins undertook a meticulous effort to make this vision a reality. Hon. Ufuoma Olotu, the Chairman of the Silver Jubilee, personally visited living teachers and the families of posthumous awardees, formally inviting them to our Silver Jubilee celebration, where they will be recognized and celebrated. Hon. Olotu has shown leadership and dedication to this course. 

The GCU Class of '92, under the dynamic leadership of our chairman, envisions these awards as just the beginning of our commitment to positively impact lives in unprecedented ways. GCU C'92 Silver Jubilee: Sapele House Triumphs in Cleanliness Race


In a spirited celebration of Government College Ughelli's C'92 Silver Jubilee, the campus buzzed with excitement as young action boys vied for the title of the cleanest hostel. Under the vigilant eye of Pastor Engr. Victor Ubieghan and his dedicated sanitation committee, the competition not only showcased the students' enthusiasm for cleanliness but also emphasized the importance of maintaining a pristine environment.

Sapele House emerged as the victor in this cleanliness race, School house, emerged the first runner-up whilst Warri house came third position; a testament to their commitment to hygiene and order. Pastor Engr. Victor Ubieghan, leading the sanitation committee, ensured a thorough evaluation of the hostels, making the event a resounding success. Individual students were also awarded for their personal effort. Student Maxwell Omonade of School House (Jss 2) came first, Goodluck Osademe of Sapele House (SS1) came second position and Ojigbo Marvelous of Orerokpe House (ss3) came third place.

Beyond the competition, Pastor Engr. Ubieghan took the opportunity to impart valuable lessons on personal hygiene and environmental cleanliness to the students. His admonishments resonated, leaving a lasting impact on the school community.

The jubilation didn't end with the winner's announcement. Sanitation materials were generously distributed to various hostels courtesy GCU Class of 92, reinforcing the ongoing commitment to cleanliness. Additionally, customized notebooks were shared among the students, serving as both a token of recognition and a reminder of the importance of a clean and organized living space.
